<![CDATA[Bob Dylan & Hip Hop]]>Fri, 17 Jan 2025 04:13:14 GMThttp://hiphopiseternal.com/blog/bob-dylan-hip-hopBob Dylan is widely regarded as one of the greatest songwriters and lyricists across all genres. The film A Complete Unknown is an autobiographical film about him.

The way Bob Dylan rhymed in certain songs was almost like an MC, he would stack some of his songs with rhymes and use poetic and songwriting techniques galore. He could make simple songs or complex ones rich with metaphors.

He did a song with Kurtis Blow called Street Rock where he did a rap on the intro.

Several rappers have cited him as an influence and Public Enemy did a song dedicated to him titled Long And Whining Road.

He’s spoken highly about Hip Hop and it’s artists, considering the Hip Hop artists of that time the “voice of a generation” and “poets who knew what was going on”.

“I think it’s an incredible art form” - Bob Dylan on Hip Hop]]>
<![CDATA[Teacher Trying To Get Hip Hop On England's National Curriculum]]>Fri, 17 Jan 2025 02:17:29 GMThttp://hiphopiseternal.com/blog/teacher-trying-to-get-hip-hop-on-englands-national-curriculumTeacher James Bennett is trying to get Hip Hop on the national curriculum in England to support pupils who may be struggling with mainstream education.

He delivered a Hip Hop Healing pilot last year and has been given funding to create another event.

He is inviting influential figures to see his work in action and has had rapper Jaykae perform at his old school.

"I've had kids who won't write anything down in English, writing poetry for three hours because they can hear a beat. Music can help so much and also act as therapy.

If you can tap into people's passions a bit more, you can make a bright future for kids and also give them the mindset that you can make a living from something you are passionate about” - James Bennett

"I am convinced that increased investment in schools and encouragement to do this kind of work would make an enormous and positive impact on society and the lives of many young people.

Hip Hop Healing provides an enriched curriculum of dance, performing arts, music, photography, design and art which engages young people in a way that mainstream curriculum can struggle to at times." - Colin Crehan (Holy Trinity Headteacher)

Brother Ali & unJUST – The Collapse

The song from Brother Ali & unJUST’s album "Love & Service" is powerful, heart-wrenching and thought provoking where Brother Ali raps about the suffering of the people in Palestine in a poetic, eloquent, emotive way with authentic passion that comes across in his delivery over the haunting unJUST production.

The song is impactful and leaves a lasting impression upon the listener, it is an embodiment and continuation of Hip Hop's long standing tradition of protest music, highlighting important issues and advocating for justice.

The chorus fits in perfectly with the title, subject matter and theme, "everyone kept dancing, while it was all collapsing", which could be both metaphorically and literally on several different levels. It provokes reflection about the situation and how the people in the regions lives and surroundings are collapsing before them as the wider world in many cases continues without giving them a second thought regarding the horrors and atrocities they are facing.

The multilayered music video further emphasises the intended message and is the perfect visual to the brilliant piece of art Brother Ali & unJUST have created with the song.

<![CDATA[Hip Hop Is Eternal Artist & Lyricist Of The Year 2024]]>Tue, 31 Dec 2024 20:17:30 GMThttp://hiphopiseternal.com/blog/hip-hop-is-eternal-artist-lyricist-of-the-year-2024
Hip Hop Is Eternal Artist & Lyricist Of The Year 2024 is Common.

Common and Pete Rock released their album The Auditorium Vol.1 which many consider the Hip Hop album of the year.

Common’s performance on the album is exceptional, his lyrics are full of witty wordplay and poetic mastery with substance and depth, his wordplay in particular adds to the replay value of the songs as you can keep catching additional meanings the more you listen.

Common’s delivery adapts to the mood of the songs and he shows range and depth as an artist, smoothly displaying his songwriting ability in a manner that appears effortless, what he does is an indication of the high level artist, MC and lyricist he is.

Common is a veteran in Hip Hop at this point but he sounds sharp and hungry on the album and in his live performances this year. He has long been one of the great Hip Hop artists and it seems like with The Auditorium Vol.1 he is finally getting the appreciation that is well deserved.

Hip Hop Is Eternal Producer Of The Year 2024 is Pete Rock.

Pete Rock brought the best out of Common on their collaboration album The Auditorium Vol. 1 with soulful beats that seemed tailor made for him.

Not every producer is capable of holding down an entire quality album by themselves but Pete Rock has proved he’s certainly still one of those that can.

He has only added on to his already impeccable legacy with his production work on the album which has been almost universally critically acclaimed by fans and the industry as a whole.
